It Was A Honest Mistake

"Let's move on."
- Couldn't quite hide a wry smile after coming across the title of a ST forum letter (from a certain frequent contributor) on Mas Selamat's wholly-preventable escape; This phrase should really be a national slogan in the making!

Then again, as Confucius say (adapted), "父为子隐,侄为叔隐,直在其中矣" (to which tpk noted 自古忠孝不两全). While not condoning what Mas Selamat was planning to do (the bomb Changi Airport part, not the sell Ramly burger part), or what his family did, his family's acts were at least understandable.

I was kind of surprised that quite a bit of the official response was centered on stating that it did not reflect on the wider Malay-Muslim community; as if people of other races don't harbour criminally-inclined relatives... notably, British law precludes spouses from giving evidence against each other (secondary school literature is useful after all)

But no fear, the local attitude of accountability let's move on will carry us through; resigning (like what South Korea's Defence Minister did after a slightly slow response to North Korean shelling - perhaps a case of the Kim is dead, long live the Kim?) or even accepting censure is for pussies. I mean, finding a guy among four million is one thing, but if they can't even spare a man to watch his front door... well.

Continuing on national identity, our get-SEA-Games-gold-until-sian water polo team has gotten into hot water due to their innovative trunks, which give a whole new meaning to "raising the flag".

Stand up for Singapore (Source: Yahoo! Finance [yes, that's right])

Now this is a honest mistake if I ever saw one.

Well, Ms. Robo W. White briefly became the mother of seven on the night of the 25th, emphasis on briefly. The mother is fine (if a bit thinner), the babies... not so much. Not the happiest of occasions, but not the saddest either, since kiddies-that-don't-quite-make-it are synonymous with "fortified protein supplements" in hamster culture.

Better luck next time (Source: giantitp.com)

She was medivac-ed to Mr. Ham's old cage (thoroughly cleaned) that afternoon after some telltale signs, including lying on her back and trying to build a nest next to the fan (probably not a wise move), and managed to fill one of the running balls with bedding for her babies, an impressive feat for a tiny hamster.

Hubby Mr. Robo G. Grey (he somehow hid his scent gland until he knocked his partner up) didn't look too upset either...

This is Ms. Robo hammering Mr. Robo for child support

... especially since their usual "conversations" for the past couple of weeks appear to have gone like this:

(Feeding time)

Ms. Robo: "Ahem."

Mr. Robo: "Oh, alright..." (hands over his honey star)

Ms. Robo: "Ahem."

Mr. Robo: "What?"

(Ms. Robo forcibly extracts goodies from Mr. Robo's cheek pouches)

Mr. Robo: "But... but..."

Ms. Robo: "For the babiez."

(Ms. Robo proceeds to beat Mr. Robo up while extracting more stuff from his mouth)

Ms. Robo: "Stress relief, thanks."

Mr. Robo (pathetically, to human): "U *ouch* can't let her do *oof* this!"

Ms. Robo: "Wait, wait. It has been extensively proven that although a big guy hitting a small lady is universally considered despicable, a big lady curbstomping a small guy is mainstream comedy. See for instance Norbit."

Me: "Can't argue with that. Carry on."

Mr. Robo: "But... but...*arghhhhh* *my delicate bits*"

Well, Ms. Robo gets some valuable experience, her own home, recovery time and more treats (soya-soaked breadcrumbs, anyone?), Mr. Robo gets to not be beaten up, both of them will get some across-the-cage-bars conjugal visits, and Mr. Ham gets some peace and quiet, so it's mostly all good.

Some long shots on hams on P$747/P$1100...

P$50 on Fulham to draw Birmingham (at 3.15) - Birmingham are yet to win away, but Fulham have been pretty bad
P$50 on Wigan to beat West Ham (3.70) - Wigan: not very good. West Ham: worse
P$50 on Manchester City to draw Stoke City (3.25) - Money to cancel out long balls
