- Confucius I regret that the scheduled weekly episode of the mr.ham show is not able to take place, due to the collapse of a major fixture in the top floor of Mr. Ham's residence: ![]() Oh, the hamanity! Mr. Ham, who was spotted with a jackhammer and several sticks of dynamite in the aftermath, roundly berated the builders for shoddy workmanship, while boasting of his own foresight in taking out several insurance policies on his home, and buying shares in construction firms besides. Mr. Ham hinted obliquely that "anti-truth forces" may have been at work, but promised to resume regular broadcasting as soon as he gets his dwelling back in order. It is just as well that Mr. Ham is self-funding, as I have run tight on my budget for the month (and last). Other than a pair of shoes and new earphones, I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my flagging XFX Geforce 9800 GT graphics card. It would be the fourth time in as many upgrades that I am switching manufacturers, having gone from an Inno3d Geforce FX 5500, to an ASUS Geforce 7600, to said XFX Geforce 9800 GT, and now to the MSI N460GTX Cyclone: ![]() Quite pretty if I say so myself [No, the product numbers give little clue as to the relative performance (though the second digit usually increases together with ability within the same family)] I probably didn't actually need to shell out S$229 given that I don't even play 3D-heavy games nowadays (though even titles like Civ and Shogun which don't really depend on graphical wow factor somehow find ways to suck up resources...), but well, it should last for a couple of years. At the very least, it sure runs cooler than the 9800 GT, usually hovering from 40 to 60 degrees instead of over eighty for the older card. It does, however, require two power connectors, up from the one of the 9800 GT, and zero before that. There was also the eating out with the usual gang at Holland Village's Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao last weekend, where I seriously enjoyed gobbling down the delectable pork dumplings. Protip: put in a huge order for them at one go, if hungry. ![]() Touch interface for steamboats nowadays, who would have thunk Time to institute a spending freeze for the remainder of the month then; now, if only countries could figure that out... Next: Again In This Respect
