Brought work home for the weekend, so this will be short. Following Tuesday's entry, I discovered that I had left the miner on, and thus am now the proud owner of approximately four-hundredths of a Bitcoin; this was with a half-decent graphics card too - imagine how much worse it would have been with Javascript! Javascript (with HTML5) is however still plenty good enough for a simple simulation of the SAF range. Have fun: ![]() (Click to play) Perhaps not if you're in Norway, with one of their largest retail chains banning dozens of so-called violent video games (including World of Warcraft, which Breivik used as cover) from their stores. Remember when people had to remove their footwear before boarding planes, after some prize halfwit tried to ignite his shoes? Yeah, it'll be about as effective. Strangely, the spam-protection possibilities of hard hashing never took off in comparism to Bitcoin, despite being proposed far earlier. No promise of private gain in it, I gather. Which reminds me, public transport fares got raised again. Why does it look like two defacto-monopoly operators, facing extremely inelastic demand, adjusting price levels as to meet their desired profit margin? *Rushes off to buy shares in SMRT* The neighbourhood pharmacy has reportedly become a pawn shop, which although probably a more efficient use of space, is Not A Good Sign. Also got asked for a dollar by a kid for the bus fare last morning, another first. Come to think of it, I seem to be a magnet for donation-seekers (both public and private), directions-askers, and sales personnel (reminder: do not make eye contact). I should really channel my inner FAKEBERT more. I certainly ought to have after getting stopped for a getting-to-know-God session thinly disguised as a survey at university, but out of academic fellowship ticked in the negative thrice (hey, Peter did it first, and he got to be Pope), and briefly considered engaging in logical debate, before thinking better of it. Just as well, since I got a piece of paper kindly explaining to me the purpose of my life out of the encounter. Signing off, I simply have to mention a quite hilarious homegrown cartoon entitled "Demon-cratic Singapore" (now at 126 strips and counting - see, for example, a take on the upcoming Presidental elections), but got uneasy about spreading its clearly anti-incumbent stance without any checks and balances. This blog strives to be reasonably neutral, after all. After a search for comparable pro-incumbent comic talent fell through, I felt it only proper to satisfy my personal sense of fairness by featuring their official website at least, advertising them in rough proportion to votes garnered: ![]() Based on equality (Disclaimer: bert's blog is in no way affiliated with either website) Next: National Day Special
