Lull here, folks. Due to the Home Improvement Programme, I've relocated till the end of next week; the hamsters are glued to their trading screens, as the Bitcoin price just broke through US$630; England fans get up to their customary roughhousing in France, before the Three Lions throw away their lead in injury time against Russia (note: England were fourth-favourites at about 9-to-1 odds; the hamsters are going for Belgium at 11-to-1); Yes, your usual lazy summer. Dropped by the local Decathlon megastore, and wound up splurging on apparel and gear. It's a lovely place to spend an hour or two, if one doesn't mind the packs of kids playing footy all over with the merchandise (they're not discouraged from doing so). While the house brand prices aren't that low, they were decent, likely helped by the wise decision to set up shop in an industrial zone, rather than have their carrots chopped in one of our overpriced cookie-cutter malls. Anyway, the latest development on the Smart Nation front, has been to... ban the Internet from civil service computers, because the IDA apparently hasn't been able to find any better solution to network security, despite having masterplans dating back a decade or more. Well, the familiar face-saving maneuverings are taking place - the ban's absolutely necessary, says the PM... but ok for teachers. Then, our Minister for Communications and Information defended the move by revealing that "other countries have expressed interest"... while diplomatically neglecting to mention if these countries were North Korea or Eritrea. Eh, nothing says innovation like cutting the Gov-dian cable, so to speak. Onwards and upwards! [15 June "apparel edit"] Next: Weight Of Realisation
