Data Binge (Pokémon)

To commemorate Niantic finally raising the Pokémon Go level cap to 50 after four years, here's my egg-hatching data over the entire period; I had thought my record of 1724 eggs was complete, but the app itself indicated that I had hatched 1786 eggs, so it turns out that my coverage was only about 96.5% (oh well). Offhand, the distributions of the Attack, Defense and Stamina (HP) stats had means of 12.509, 12.593 and 12.529 respectively, and indeed do suggest a uniform distribution over the range [10,15] (though one might apply a goodness of fit test, if so inclined). Wouldn't have guessed the most frequent hatches myself; it does get a little routine after awhile...

Actually getting to Level 50 may take some time, with my casual play thus far only sufficient for Level 42, and that's not even accounting for the other requirements. Well, it's the journey.

And a quick addendum on food from the previous post: it appears that the government is planning to grow more of it locally, in anticipation of possible supply chain disruptions, as discussed a couple of months back. Kudos where it's warranted - it's far better to be prepared for the worst if a global upheaval actually takes place, and if you're watching closely, many nations' and alliances' actions don't seem to be entirely aligned to their more-conciliatory words and declarations, more so than ever. Myself, I'm eagerly following the recent progress in lab-grown/cultured meat, which might somewhat mitigate my hypocrisy on consuming animals, whilst being largely unwilling to participate in the actual killing (can I say that it's partly their fault for being so tasty?). If they manage to get the costs down and taste up to a reasonable extent, it could be time to look into a subscription, if available.

And before I forget, there's been some rather creative work on using Pokémon to detect predatory journals, with submissions such as "Cyllage City COVID-19 outbreak linked to Zubat consumption" getting accepted by less-discriminating outlets. It might be recognized that some Pokémon names might very well pass as drug names to the uninitiated, but "Expression of the pokemon gene and pikachurin protein in the pokémon pikachu"?! That may be taking it a little too far...
