Blasts From The Past

A critical part of calibrating one's insight is the revisiting of past projections and prognostications, one figures, and it felt like time to take on some of those today. Firstly, on the supposed much-ballyhooed New World Order, Russia has officially deployed the terminology last week as well, which earns them some big troll points. This comes as the Solomon Islands felt it necessary to state that their security pact with China (as mentioned in the last post) would not extend to military bases, but to be entirely honest, it's not like lawyerese has prevented outside powers from availing themselves of logistics and resupply elsewhere (e.g. the totally-not-a-military base "Navy Region Center" in Sembawang). Well, between that, a new (rather-pointed) A.I. and space pact with the U.S., and British warships to dock here, that should mean a flurry of preliminary MOUs with China to come in the near future. I sure hope that we're getting a good exchange rate on those things.

The Solomon Islands may have good reason to be wary too, from how two countries that have both coincidentally been widely seen to be falling under China's influence umbrella - Pakistan and Sri Lanka - have suddenly been rocked by possible regime change and outsized domestic unrest. For Pakistan, a no-confidence motion has been raised to remove Prime Minister Imran Khan (noted here to be fishing about in Russia - probably upon gentle prodding - at the beginning of March), who has in turn openly accused America of being behind the effort (and, let's face it, he may well be right). Personally, I preferred it when Uncle Sam and the CIA were more subtle with such meddling, but needs must, I suppose.

CNA have also acknowledged an "information war" in the Ukraine-Russia proxy war, which again is nothing more than recognized here some weeks prior, with Team Red not above some rather far-fetched takes (e.g. our PM apologizing and cancelling a U.S. visit), and possible hacking (e.g. Namewee's YouTube account getting cleaned out, if restored). Today has also chipped in with political analysts apparently having narrowed the field for our next PM to two (OYK and LW, CCS supposedly out then, as covered last December), but with other pundits reading the tea leaves from their respective new seating positions in Parliament and declaring OYK being disfavoured instead, I would say that the race is very much on.

And then we come to inflation, visited multiple times over the past year. Most relevant might be the description last May, on how the structure of the current fiat money system enables a build-up of hidden inflation, from the assignment of easy money to wealthier players/sectors of the economy that have a lower velocity of circulation, and/or are not accounted for in the consumer price index (CPI) and similar metrics used to measure inflation. Well, for much of 2021, one would have been branded a crank for espying non-transitory inflation around the horizon, but now you've got Swiss central bank chiefs suggesting a global inflationary era, and the Fed up for more and bigger rate hikes, just like that. There goes an entire year's worth of mainstream opinion in the FAKE NEWS, then.

And, to sign off with, a reprint from June 2018, that might reverberate in light of current happenings:

As relevant today as then
