The idea of getting a car having struck me last month, I figured I had better do some research before going out to the dealer; as for the new ride itself, it will get its own post probably a couple of weeks later once it's properly zhng-ed up, because why not? Now, the expected purchase for someone in my demographic (near-forty techie) would probably be a Tesla nowadays, but despite my admiration for Musk (whose new TruthGPT venture should be a valuable contribution to combating the deluge of FAKE NEWS propaganda, alongside another probably-not-entirely-coincidentally similarly-dubbed upstart social media platform)... it ain't one, for now. But anyway, given that it's been about eighteen years since I got my driving license - after which I had barely touched a steering wheel, given the convenience of public transport (and lately, Grab) in Singapore - I figured my skills needed a bit of dusting off, and thus did what most normal guys would do: binge-watch instructional films such as Initial D, Need for Speed and the Fast & Furious series, on Netflix on the treadmill at the gym (another new habit). How hard can drifting be, after all? But then I got to the point where their car flew out of a skyscraper (and it gets worse), at which I realized that perhaps these fellas aren't as good at driving, as I thought they were. Some rewinding and retrospective analysis had me confirm that there's a lot of demerit points chalked up there, and so I engaged a private instructor for some refresher drives - which have been going pretty well. Considering how getting a Grab ride has been... uncertain lately, it's a timely development. Next: All Heated Up
