Plant & Pigeon

Beleaf pays off
[Enlarged]

Realized that I had left out a Very Important Plant in last Friday's update, so here it is, tucked behind the croton petra and laksa plant in a kinda-spherical turquoise pot. This specimen had originally been obtained at a generous discount from the wabi-sabi corner of a local plant store, and had only a slightly-pitiful two leaves when it first arrived. Then, the larger one dropped off within a few days, leaving a single leaf (leftmost above) keeping the flag flying, as it were.

The passage of time has seen nine more sprout, happily, and while I'd like to say that it was the result of tender lovin' care and green fingers, it really happened by basically doing nothing. Sure, the hamsters claim to "do their part" by squatting suspiciously in the various pots now and then, but I wouldn't take their word for it that it helps, not that it seems to hurt.

Lend a wing here, hello

Speaking of guests, the humble adobe received an uninvited one last October at the first floor balcony, likely encouraged by a sudden downpour outside. One thing about pigeons is that while they tend to be able to figure out how to squeeze in between the railings and blinds, they generally can't reason their way back out, which usually results in a bit of a mess before I find them crouched miserably in a corner. The last one before this had been an exotic pink-necked green, but this ran more to the heartlander common type, and sounded familiar besides.

"Wait, aren't you part of the family that nested on the air-con ledge here, before I moved in and had it netted up?"

"Yeah, we kind of moved next door."

"Glad to hear that, how's Omelettes One & Two?"

"Long flown the coop, last I heard they were employed as political activists in America or something."

"Nice, nice. How about Omelette Three, that rascal?"

"Uh, he got detained in India on suspicion of spying for China*."

"Look, anybody asks, you don't know me and I don't know you, capeesh my feathered stranger?"

[*Not that the U.S. doesn't do that sort of thing either. That said, the latest Twilight Struggle development in Singapore has seen a naturalised citizen from Hong Kong be the first to be potentially designated as a "politically significant person" due to his rather overt ties to mainland China - including being an official overseas representative at the CCP National Congress - which should be Team Blue tightening the screws just a tad.]

Eh, let's not spoil the game by revealing the hole cards prematurely
