It may not be entirely clear whether Singapore's inclusion in America's latest Pax Silica initiative was part of The Godemprah's favour-calling-in, but it remains that we have been named alongside (pretty obvious U.S. friend club members) Britain, Australia, Israel, Japan and South Korea for this non-binding declaration on A.I. and supply chain security consensus. China was, obviously, not entirely pleased, with the Global Times insistent that it was bound to fail, largely due to the exclusion of China's sizeable mineral production and consumer market. In any case, they have been confident enough to reject America's latest offer to allow them to purchase Nvidia H200 chips, (probably correctly) figuring that it was just a transparent stratagem to keep them hooked on foreign sources - and cripple their domestic development through Huawei etc. - for as long as possible. Great is the Game, indeed. ![]() Look, we are gonna just say it outright, for those of you who fell asleep during high school history lessons (Source: asean.usmission.gov) The naming of the U.S. Pax Silica (i.e. Silicon Peace) in Latin would draw some snide remarks from local commentators, but the intended reference is - one believes - only too clear: to the two century-long Pax Romana that marked the Golden Age of ancient Roman imperialism, and by association the extant Pax Americana that the German Chancellor (note: not included in the compact) is claiming to be ending... in Europe at least. In fact, there is no need for idle supposition on this, given that the U.S. Mission to ASEAN has explicitly asserted as much. This comes about concurrent with China following up on our Defence Minister's call for deeper cooperation (as discussed in the same previous blog post) with... Exercise Cooperation, a bilateral training event by the Singapore Armed Forces and the People's Liberation Army, which was also noted by local commentators to be of questionable creativity in naming. The moral, I suppose, is that there is no need to be coy, if one has sufficient Strength and Respect in store. American (actual, real) economic strength is by the way likely on the upswing, with their monthly aggregate trade deficit shrinking to its lowest level in five years. This would be reported by the mainstream ![]() Did you chaps think that the restoration of Times New Roman (from the historically-deficient Calibri), was just for fun?!
